Miss Davies

Hi, I’m Miss Davies and I teach Dosbarth Castell Caerphilly in Year 6 alongside Mrs Cowell and Mr Taylor, who teach in Dosbarth Castell Harlech. When I joined the George Street team in 2013, I initially taught in Year 3/4 before moving to Year 5, however I have been part of the Year 6 team since September 2017.
I am very lucky to work with such fantastic children who are always enthusiastic and never leave me with a dull day! I always strive to make my lessons exciting and inspiring to ensure the children embrace their learning opportunities. I believe that school should be a positive experience with lots of fun and laughter along the way!

As well as my role as a class teacher, I am also part of the Senior Leadership team and have responsibility for leading the implementation of the new Digital Competence Framework.  As many of the children (and staff!) will tell you, I am an ICT enthusiast and will regularly explore and incorporate new technologies in my lessons to allow learners to develop their ICT skills. I work closely with Mrs K Morgan and our team of Digital Leaders to help promote the use of technologies, helping children to become ambitious, creative and informed of how technology can impact upon their futures.

I truly believe that learning should never cease and try to model a positive attitude to learning for the children whom I teach. This year I have undertaken a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning with the University of Wales Trinity St David, focussing on the implementation of Successful Futures. The course has allowed me to visit a range of different educational settings and research a range of pedagogies, which have inspired me to carry out research based enquiry within my own classroom.

Since September 2016, I have supported several Newly Qualified Teachers through their induction year in my role as an external mentor. In addition I have mentored student teachers as both a Senior Mentor and Class-based Mentor.

The thing I enjoy most about being a teacher is being able to spend time with so many diverse, inquisitive, creative children who love to learn! Being a teacher really is a privilege! The children make me laugh and smile all of the time, but most of all they make me proud. I love to see each individual achieve a personal goal or overcome a challenge that may have previously seemed impossible! I am passionate about providing the children with real life learning opportunities and experiences outside of the classroom, where they are able to apply their Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Competence skills in a meaningful way.

As well as supporting pupils in their academic learning journey, I also recognise the significance of valuing the ‘whole child’ and try to instil the importance of honesty, trust, friendship and kindness in the children.

In my free time I try to keep myself busy with lots of hobbies. I love to spend time with my family and friends; going to the theatre or going to concerts to watch my favourite bands always puts a smile on my face! Nevertheless the simple things in life keep me happy, such as curling up on the sofa with a good book and a cup of tea! I particularly enjoy the long summer evenings when I can walk along the canal or take a trip to the beach with my dog, Wilson!

Keep up to date with all that goes on in our class by following @CaerphillyGSPri on Twitter. If you would like to discuss any issues (or if you just fancy a chat!), you are more than welcome to pop in either before or after school, my door is always open!
