Shwmae pawb! My name is Miss Main and I teach Dosbarth Castell Caerdydd in Year 5, alongside Mr Bowen. After having such a fantastic experience as a student teacher at George Street Primary. I was thrilled to have been given the opportunity to return as a Newly Qualified Teacher. Successful completion of my PGCE at University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Swansea has afforded me the opportunity to work with a range of year groups including Years 1, 5 and 6.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time already spent at George Street both as a trainee student and a teacher. Last year, I had the opportunity to work with such a lovely group of multi-talented and enthusiastic children and have been fortunate to continue with these children this year in year 5! My passion for teaching stems from my personal experiences of school life. I fondly remember my own teachers and those who were able to empower me to overcome barriers and inspire me to achieve my goals and ambitions. I firmly believe that teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs and I hope to have a similar impact on the children who I have the privilege of teaching. Having the opportunity to be part of shaping young individuals through stimulating and enjoyable lessons brings such pride and pleasure.
In addition to my role as a class teacher at George Street, I also work alongside Mrs Jones from Dosbarth Bluebell and our incredible Criw Cymraeg in leading the development Welsh language and bilingualism across the school. I have a passion for Welsh and although it is not my first language, my enthusiasm is contagious! I recognise the importance of being a positive role model when using the Welsh language within our school environment. I feel it is hugely important for the children to have opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of their Welsh heritage and to take pride in our Welsh culture; I hope that I can support parents and carers in developing this further at home as well as in school. Last year, both staff and children’s outstanding efforts helped us secure the Bronze Award as part of the ‘Siarter Iaith’ Welsh development programme. We are now aiming to secure the Silver Award over the coming years.
In my spare time, I keep myself entertained by spending as much time as possible with my family; I particularly enjoy going for long walks around the Welsh coasts on weekends. I also like to go road running to keep fit, however for a mental detox this will often be followed with coffee, cake and catch-up with my friends!
Continuing to build relationships with children and parents alike is very important to me; therefore my door is always open! If there are any issues, queries or concerns you may have, I am always happy to discuss these either before or after the school day. I look forward to meeting you soon!
