Professional Learning Partner School
Since 2015, George Street Primary School has proudly worked in partnership with regional school improvement services and the Welsh Government to promote high-quality professional learning across the education sector.
Over this time, we have developed a strong focus on professional learning, providing a wide range of training opportunities for schools across Torfaen, Newport, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, and Monmouthshire.
Our partnerships extend beyond the region. We work closely with Cardiff Metropolitan University as part of the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Alliance and have recently joined the University of South Wales (USW) team to support student teachers undertaking their BA (Hons) Primary Education degree.
Many of our staff are also actively engaged in further study, including the National Masters in Education (Wales) and EdD (Wales) programmes.
We are extremely proud to be a Professional Learning Partner School and firmly believe that our sustained focus on high-quality professional learning has a positive impact on pupil outcomes at George Street.
For several years, we were a Lead Enquiry School for the National Professional Enquiry Project (NPEP). This work has shaped our ongoing journey of embedding enquiry and research into everyday practice. Whole-school enquiries, exploring how teachers and teaching assistants engage with professional enquiry, have led to significant, evidence-informed improvements across our school in recent years.
In addition to this, we provide strong support for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) through both national and local initiatives. Members of our team act as Induction Validators, supporting NQTs and their internal mentors, as well as contributing to professional learning programmes for TAs such as TALP and Getting Students Learning, Not Doing.
As part of our ongoing school improvement journey, we have recently begun exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and look forward to developing this exciting area of professional learning in the year ahead.
We are incredibly fortunate to have a Community Hub building here at George Street that will be used (whenever possible) to hold our Professional Learning Partner School training sessions. Please click here to watch a short video explaining how to access this new site.
